Hallstatt 1 night end of May

It seems the prices are much less if I stay outside of the town itself but then have to get into town in the morning to walk around, etc. Also, what will I do with my backpack while walking. Is there a public storage place? I will then be going on to Vienna via train. Suggestions on places to stay and storage for the morning/afternoon till departure. TY

We are big fans of the Gasthof Badel. It is just off the Autobahn, the people are wonderful, rooms are nice and the food (both breakfast and dinner) is very good. We are in our upper-mid seventies and found no trouble with the short walk over the pedestrian bridge into the town. The walk to the train station is 850 meters per google maps and probably takes about 15 minutes and since both locations are neat the river, it is not a vertical walk.

Hallstatt does not have a train station. The train stops across the lake from the town, connected to Hallstatt by a boat which synchronizes its arrivals and departures to the train times. There is no station at all at the train stop, hence no place to leave luggage.

TY both for your responses. I didn't see the hotel Badel in Hallstatt...?

In addition to Hallstatt, check out accommodations in Lahn (hint: use Goggle Maps). You might find something more favorably priced there (I did). It is only about 1 km south of Hallstatt along Seestraße - not a bad walk if you leave your backpack at your accommodations.

I think the previous poster misread your post - Gasthoff Badl is nice, but it is not in Hallstadt; it is in Hall, in a totally different region of Austria. There are many nice small B&B places in Hallstadt. Check the Hallstadt tourism website or booking.com. Enjoy your trip!

My mistake, I misread the post as Hall in Tirol. Sorry for the confusion.

Another vote for the Grunen Anger. We were served breakfast on our geranium'd balcony, & I think with even a second pot of coffee, oh wonderful hostess. Easy stroll into the heart of town.
