Gintherhof: Ruette, Austria

My husband and I just spent two weeks in Europe, primarily in Germany and Austria but we also spent some time in the alpine region of France and in eastern Belgium. Out of the seven different B&B’s and hotels we stayed in, Gintherhof was hands down the best! Truly, I cannot gush enough about what a warm, welcoming, thoroughly pleasant stay lovely Annelies and her family offered us.

We were greeted on the afternoon of our arrival by cake and coffee. Annelies sat with us and offered us a wealth of information (and discounts) for attractions in the area. We also met her mother and father and had the most wonderful conversations with Annelies and her father during the two nights we stayed there. They not only welcomed us into their home but also made us feel part of the family.

The breakfasts were hearty, and Annelies even insisted that we make ourselves sandwiches to take with us for lunch. She was extremely kind and generous to us. On the morning we left, her father sat and spoke with us while we ate. We got a tour of their unique farm, and he and Annelies saw us off and waved to us from the door. It felt as though we had stayed with dear friends. Annelies’ mother even made us a lovely parting gift of a handmade tablecloth, which now proudly adorns my table.

Also, the room was clean, offered complimentary schnapps, and had a lovely view of the castle ruins lit at night.
If we could have packed up the Gintherhof house and taken it with us on the rest of our trip, we would have. It was the Disney World of our stays, and made all of the rest (however nice) seem not as good as Gintherhof.

If you are visiting the King’s Castles in Germany and would like a home away from home, stay with Annelies and her wonderful family. You won’t be disappointed. [A BIG thank you to Rick for this recommendation!]
