Recommend good medical evacuation program?

I have been a member of EA+ since 2014, but I would strongly advise anyone against buying into this "travel assistance" membership. My husband was hospitalized in critical condition for three weeks in London in September 2023. I notified EA+ immediately, as required; after signing two forms to consent to release of information about my husband's condition, I got no communication from EA+. When, two weeks in, my husband suffered a setback where he couldn't speak or recognize me, I called EA+ again in a panic. He could neither walk nor stand. I asked about an air ambulance, as described on the EA+ website but I was very rudely told by a person named John that "we don't do any of that. It's just marketing." Thank God we also had Travel Guard insurance, which was wonderful, and got us home. Travel Guard is great, but it is trip specific. We often travel outside the TG parameters. Is there a good medevac program out there?

Oh my word! I thought EA+ DID cover air ambulance....well it's not really worth having is it?

I have no advice for you but just wanted to say I'm glad you posted and that you got your husband home from London with the Travel Guard insurance. I usually go with TravelGuard or Allianz but have never had to make a claim. At the end of the pandemic when I returned to European travel I went with $1 million medevac in case I had to be evac'd by air ambulance on a ventilator but have gone back to $500,000 as a ball park estimate.

BTW, you might consider filing a claim with your state's Insurance Commissioner if you feel your EA+ policy does cover air ambulance transport and they refused.

Check out MedJet Assist. It's not medical insurance, just evacuation insurance. They have many plans and annual memberships.

I am working on a complaint with the federal Consumer Protection Bureau. Because EA is a membership and not insurance, insurance commish can’t help me.

Oh, jeeze!

I've paid for EA+ for a few years, and am just about to re-sign. Guess I won't.

If EA+ failed to provide what they promise on their website, and you fulfilled the conditions for the service, you should complain to your state insurance commissioner.

@Lola, OP said upthread because EA+ is a membership the Insurance Commissioner can't help. That was the first thing I suggested as well.

I also have Medjet Assist. If you are a member of AARP you can get a discounted plan.

If your local Insurance Commissioner declines to act ( give them a chance as it seems what EA+ offers looks like insurance), then the Attorney-General of your state or private atty for false advertising. If "John" is correct, then class action status looks probable.

Have you had time to follow up with supervisor at EA+ ?

A complaint to BBB wouldn't hurt.

Hope your husband is recovering.

Talked with supervisor at EA+ on Oct. 17. She said she would investigate and get back to me. Did not hear another word until I began posting negative comments on the EA+ ads on my Facebook page. That was week of Jan. 1. Talked with her at length last week. Never once did she deny that this John person was wrong about what they won't do. Nor did she apologize. I have posted a review with the BBB (can't do a complaint because I've already gotten my 2024 membership fee refunded) and filed a complaint with the FTC Consumer Protection Agency. I just don't want anyone else to be treated this way. It could have ended tragically. Thank goodness for Travel Guard.

Did you buy EA + through an advertisement connected to a company? I've gotten EA+ brochures connected with AAA, United Airlines, and maybe others. If you originally bought because of a partner company, maybe notifying that company would cause them to contact EA+. Perhaps that would prompt EA+ to help you. Or at least have some consequences for EA +.

Thank you for pointing out the 'membership' status rather than insurance. I never noticed that difference when I considered buying.
