DON'T book Qunita de Marrocos (Douro Region)

We were so excited to read Rick's recommendation for this place and immediately booked in Fall 2022. In January 2023 our reservation was canceled by the Quinta. We have been attempting to get a refund from them for 5 months now. There is some legal/ family drama and everyone points fingers at a different party for the refund. We have exchanged dozens of emails with the owners and lawyers and still have no refund.

They still have an online presence and may be rebranding as "Quinta das Sequeirinhas". Be very, very wary of this company. I hate to write something negative about a small family business, but we have been more than patient in attempting to resolve this and I don't want anyone else scammed!

Sorry for your hassles with the hotel. I know you know this now, but this is why so many travelers refuse to book either cash deposits with small hotels or book non-refundable reservations. It sounds like you did not deposit or prepay with a credit card otherwise your credit card company would be the place to start. You can protest the past charge and the CC company will go against the owners CC account. Hope it works out. You may also want to drop an email to RS offices to alert them of this issue at this hotel as I am sure they would want to remove the hotel as a recommendation.

Thank you for the link to the guidebook feedback; I will fill that out.

And we used a credit card, we were just trying to work with the property to resolve the issue. We have since reported it to our CC company.

Thanks so much for this info. Booking.com will still take reservations for Quinta da Marrocos! I was able to cancel my reservation for free. Where did you end up staying?

I realize this is a somewhat old post now, but any resolution? And any further updates to the situation regarding the hotel itself?
