Greetings travelers! We plan to day trip to Leiden from our base in Amsterdam (5 days), anyone care to share
recent dining experiences in Leiden? There is not much in the way of recent reviews on line. We are hoping to have dinner after a day of touring.
Also any recommendations in Amsterdam are welcome. (We plan to visit Sama Sebo for rijsttafel as per RS suggestions).

We spent a wonderful week in Leiden. Our favorite meals were at Restaurant in den Doofpot. We also enjoyed Beer Cafe Olivier, Belgian style.
The prior poster’s recommendation for Beer Cafe Olivier was spot on, but I believe this location permanently closed (as per Google) recently. Beer Cafe Olivier in a glorious former church in Utrecht, though, is still open and I highly recommend it.

We had a very nice lunch at the cafe in the Hortus Botanic Garden Cafe in Leiden about 10 days ago.
If you like Thai food, we had a very nice dinner at Sabai Sabai in Leiden a couple of years ago.
For take away lunch or delicious pastries in Leiden, try the Friesian bakery Friese Bread and Pastry Bakery Us Bertus. We bought take out food and pastries, then ate in the nearby University botanical garden Hortus Botanicus.
