Accommodations in Galway

We are traveling to London and then to Ireland in July. We plan to use Galway as the hub to visit the Cliffs, Connemara, and the Burren and do Dublin for the last few days before we fly out. We are having difficulty finding accommodations. It seems as though we are trying to book too late. We are considering staying outside the city center but are looking for hotel/ B&B recommendations. Is it even realistic at this point? Having traveled to Europe many times, this is the first time we have encountered such difficulty finding accommodations in April for a July trip.

Did you check booking. Com?? I just did as a test and found five hotels for middle of July with several rooms in each. Suggest you try again. You could then book direct. Good luck.

There are definitely rooms to be had. My husband just booked 5 nights in Galway City for early July this past Friday. I'm not sure of your parameters (price, number of guests, location, dates) but perhaps--if you can--adjust one of those? Just a thought...

I highly recommend Sea Breeze Lodge in Galway. It's a small bed & breakfast about 10 min. drive from Galway city center, or easily accessible by city bus. It is in a safe, quiet neighborhood. The rooms are large (especially compared to most European hotels), very comfortable, & reasonably priced. The owners are a lovely couple who greet you at the door and provide friendly, excellent service. Breakfast is cooked to order & delicious. Some of the rooms have views of the bay, and the Galway Promenade along the bay is a short drive from the B&B. We found the Sea Breeze on Tripadvisor and were so happy we did. We only had 2 nights there, wish we could have stayed at least 1 more night.

We stayed at the Harbour Hotel in Galway last August - loved it. Good location, adjacent parking lot, great bar, restaurant with full breakfast and dinner options.

We stayed at Petra House B&B and would recommend it. There were many B&Bs on College Road where our B&B was located, so I would look on Google Maps for their names and then look at their website once you have their names. Google Maps is actually a pretty useful tool for finding accomodations.

If you are there during the Galway Festival, July 17-30, prices may be higher and accomodations a little more difficult to find.
When I was there (pre-Covid), I booked somewhat late and many of the recommended B&Bs were full. I ended up finding a good price at the Western Hotel by booking directly with the hotel. The location right above Eyre Square was very convenient for day trips and seeing Galway and the room was nice. The hotel has a restaurant and pub that seemed to be popular with locals and had live trad music some nights.

Thank you, for your suggestions.

We are now booked at The Flannery. The location seems to be perfect for our sightseeing plans.

I have passed your lodging suggestions to some friends who will be traveling the same route as us in September.

Happy Travels! Marcelle McGhee

We stayed at the Oranhill Lodge in Galway, and loved it! The hosts were friendly, attentive and happy to answer all our questions. Breakfast was excellent, as were the accommodations. We stayed in the apartment, which was lovely.
