RS Discount on Danube Cruise

Hi All

In his latest Central Europe guidebook, Rick Steves mentions a 20% RS discount on the Legenda Cruise line for cruises on the Danube. My family and I will be in Budapest next month and I would like to book the Danube cruise now since it will be on a weekend and we want to be on the 2000 hours cruise. Am I correct in assuming that I have to call the ticket office and request the RS discount when I make the reservation? I am not seeing a place to do so when I try to book the tickets on-line. Since I do not speak Hungarian, will the person in the ticket office be able to understand me and help me out?

Thanks for your help.

All most certainly someone on the line will speak English. As for the discount .... good luck. I did read on "that other" forum that you have to show them your RS Guide book when you buy the ticket to get the discount.

Dear Mr. Ed, thanks for your quick response to my question. I did not realize that one had to go to the ticket booth in order to get the RS discount because I am keen to reserve our spots before we get to Budapest as we are want to take a very specific cruise on a very specific day. I was therefore hoping to make the reservation ahead of time but it seems like this may not be possible if we want the RS discount. Too bad!

Thanks again for your help.

Dont get me wrong, just passing on what i found in another forum. Does not make it fact. You still might want to call them. They will speak English.

Thanks for the clarification. I will call them and see what they have to say. Thanks again Mr. E

I thought that I would post an update on my question for anyone who might have a similar one. I called the office of Legenda Cruise line and talked to a lady who spoke wonderful English (the language barrier had been one of my concerns). She helped me make the Danube cruise reservations that I wanted, with the 20% RS discount. She sent me an E-mail with a reservation code and I will pay for the tickets at the ticket booth. It was extremely easy. Thank you Mr. E for your help and advice.

Hungary has about 10 million inhabitants and they speak a language that shares nothing with any other language spoken in Europe. Oh, there are some links to Finnish and Estonian but they are more academic than actual. So, what do you do if you live here and you dont want to spend your entire life in a tiny country? You learn English. Hard to find someone under 40 in Budapest that isnt at least somewhat functional in English.

When buying the ticket, the girl saw my book and gave the discount without having to ask for it. I don’t think you really need to buy tickets in advance. I bought mine for the sunset cruise which I think is the busiest and it was easy.
