Greece Tour includes cruise ship

Hello
I have a question regarding the cruise ship from the port of Piraeus in Athens. Our first stop is the Aegean island of Mykonos. We will have three nights on the ship. My husband gets "sea sick" easily. He is concerned about this part of our tour. Does anyone have experience taking a cruise ship from here to the various islands in Greece (Ephesus, & Crete )? Are the waters choppy? Problems with the ship swaying, etc? He wants to be prepared. Thank you!

Greatly depends on the season and the size of the ship. About 3 years ago, in June, we toured the islands on the Harmony V, which is basically a 20 cabin motor yacht . We had one rough stretch to Crete where they passed out Dramamine to everyone. We didn't realize how rough it really was until we got to Santorini and found 3 large cruise ships that stayed in the Caldera and heard there was another 4 waiting outside! As you can image, Santorini was a madhouse-wall to wall with cruisers(us included). Prior to going, I googled "Agean sea conditions" and it showed a map with wave heights in different areas. If on a big boat, you normally wouldn't feel any kind or rocking, however, on smaller ones or ferries, you can suffer.

We got stuck on Patmos a couple extra nights because seas were too high for the ferry (probably much smaller than your cruise ship) to Kos to operate. This was in September. I wouldn't know how one could know much in advance other than as JerryG suggested; so be prepared like you say. Have a great trip.

Unfortunately I think you have to be prepared. The Aegean Sea is relatively shallow and prone to rolling waves. Every large ships with stabilizers have problems. We have been on nearly a dozen European cruises and our worst experience was one day in the Aegean when I swear our ship spend the day at a 45 degree angle to the water (I know that is not possible) but it make for a tough day. BUT - our other experiences in the Aegean have been fine. It is a dice roll with the weather but it can be a problem in the Aegean.

Try booking a cabin on the lower decks in the middle of the ship, that reduces any wave action.

Also, start taking ginger tablets a few days before the cruise and continue during the cruise.

Most modern cruise ships have great stabilizers that keep movement at a minimum, however in a storm any ship will have some movement.

When we did both of our cruises in the Aegean, the waves were not a problem.

When we were there spring 2016 there was no prob. I too can get quizzy shipboard. Request a stateroom on a lower level and toward the middle of ship.
And to be safe use the seasickness prevention wrist bands. I did just this on our January 2018 trip thru the straits of Gibraltar and on the atlantic to the canary islands and back to /Barcelona on ship. It worked very well. I paid about $10 for a pair. Get them bef u leave USA and use them the entire time u are sailing or on the islands.

I travel with Dramamine in my purse. Through experimentation I've learned that 1/2 pill is enough for me, but even that makes me quite sleepy, so I don't use it until I begin to feel queasy. At that point I take the half-pill very fast. Others might not be willing to wait. I did once have to take Dramamine on an Aegean ferry, but I don't remember how large the ship was. All my other ferry trips (maybe another 5-8) were fine.

Our trip to Greece and Turkey via cruise ship was truly a trip of a lifetime. Don't worry about the motion of the ship as the Med is most often tame waters.
