Private Normandy Tour from Honfleur

Hi all,

Next summer we are taking a European cruise and have a stop in Honfleur. I'm hoping to get some private tour recommendations for a day trip to Normandy and other D-Day sites.

Thanks!

Hi Craig,

Honfleur is in Normandie. When you write "I'm hoping to get some private tour recommendations for a day trip to Normandy" what are you envisioning, exactly?

Apologies, I should have been more specific. We are looking for a day trip to go to places such as Omaha Beach, the American cemetery, and Pont du Hoc.

I think at least some--quite possibly all--of the companies doing public tours will also run private tours. Most of the public tours originate in Bayeux, which is time-consuming to reach from Honfleur, but I imagine you could arrange for the tour company to pick your group up in Honfleur and return you there.

The D-Day sites are mostly if not exclusively on the western side of Bayeux, so you will be signing up for quite a lot of time in a car or van. ViaMichelin estimates the driving time from Honfleur just to Bayeux at 1 hr. 10 min. each way. You'll obviously need to consider carefully what time you'll actually get off your ship and what time you need to be back in Honfleur to re-board then allow plenty of time for an unexpected problem on the road. Will you actually have enough time to see much of the invasion area?

The only D-Day tour company with which I have experience is Overlord Tours. I'd happily use them again. There are other companies doing similar tours, and people have generally made positive comments about nearly every D-Day tour they've taken. The names of other companies will pop up if you scan some of the recent threads in which "D-Day tours" were mentioned:

You have lots of time to arrange this; congratulations for planning so far ahead.
