Heathrow to Derby

I am travelling to UK and my flight is to Heathrow airport and need to go to Derby. I am confused which is the best way to go to Derby. I have read people suggesting to use bus service but that will be really hectic I assume. Is it possible if I go to St. Pancras and from there take a train to Derby? How much time window should I have to reach St Pancras to catch my train to Derby and what is the best way to go to St. Pancras?
Also, I have heard trains are on strike on May 8th. Are trains to derby also on the list of those on strike?

Thanks in advance.

Normally the answer would be train from St Pancras.

However on 8 May all trains from all directions to Derby are cancelled due to the strike. Derby station is closed that day.

National Express have buses changing at London Victoria at 0730, 0930, 1100, 1340, 1400 and 1630

also direct at 1200, 1500, 1730, 1830, 2000, 2130 and 2300

As I write they all still have capacity.
