Traveling for the first time overseas with my CPAP machine. Is distilled water readily available? Visiting Scotland and England.

You should be able to buy it in a chemist shop. Some large supermarkets may sell it too, as people use it in steam irons

Halfords or other car accesory places sell de-ionised water if that is suitable.

It's not readily available. I doubt you'll find it - it's not a "thing".

Tap or bottled water will be fine for your machine.

Sainsbury’s (major supermarket chain) sells bottles of Glaceau smart water which is distilled. Amazon sell it, if you have an address for delivery.

De-ionised water is more widely available at supermarkets, often in the car accessories aisle.

Checking on the description for Glaceau water, it is described as "Made from vapour-distilled British spring water and added electrolytes". These include Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Bicarbonate. I'm not sure that is strictly distilled water then, or how it might affect your machine.

I do without the humidifying component while traveling, and others have reported that their doctors say using tap or bottled water for a couple of weeks is fine. You might want to check with your doctor.

we could not find distilled water when we were in the UK. Survived with bottled water.

wasleys instincts are right. Those added minerals listed are what you paid to have removed. Calcium, magnesium, and carbonate are the main components of that white mineral buildup you're trying to avoid.

I was wondering how readily available distilled water is in Italy until I discovered that the only downside (for me, YMMV) to using tap water was the minerals on the bottom of the chamber. A good soak in vinegar when I got home got rid of those. I much prefer using humidified air so I’m willing to carry the extra weight & bulk when traveling. Have a wonderful trip!

You need to be wary about buying bottled water as some does have very high levels of dissolved solids in it. You need tor ead the contents panel which gives this information.

This can also apply to tap water. Parts of the country do have 'hard water' that furs things up quickly. It is recognisable as it doesn't lather as easily as 'soft water.'

It sounds as if you are back to de-ionised water which is readily available in any car accessory store or Amazon.

I am recently having trouble finding it here in the USA for mysterious reasons. In a pinch I use purified water for babies or distilled drinking water, which would just have the needed minerals added to make it drinkable but nothing more.

I've been traveling internationally for many years with a travel CPAP. I gave up a long time ago trying to find distilled water. Unless I'm going to be in one place for at least a week, it's not worth hunting for (unless you happen to find it while buying other stuff). When I get home from my trip, if there is mineral buildup in the water tank, I soak it in CLR or Lime Away and rinse it thoroughly. All of the mineral buildup is gone and your water tank is good as new.

Thanks to all for the helpful comments about finding distilled water for my CPAP while in Britain. I am now more comfortable using bottled water if need be.
