Review of Premier Inn County Hall (London)

Overall, I was happy with my choice. I paid £708 for 5 nights in a Premier Plus room. I arrived around 9:30 am so too early to check in, but I was able to drop off my luggage. I came back around 2 pm, and they let me check in early. I was told there would be a £10 early-check-in fee, but I was never charged for it. I opted to get a Premier Plus room because of the mini fridge and the better wifi. I’m still not sure it was worth it, as the room did not seem much bigger than regular ones I had in the past, and I didn’t really use the mini fridge that much. All the Premier Plus rooms are on the same floor.

The beds were very comfy, but I did not like that you could not leave the bathroom door open (that was on purpose - evidently it’s some kind of rule). The breakfast was good, although I didn’t always eat there, and everything else was fine. The location was great, and very convenient to many of the sights. It was a very quick walk to Westminster Bridge, and a little bit longer to get to Covent Garden (via the Golden Jubilee Bridge). Borough Market was about a 15 minute walk, along with a number of other sights in South Bank. There was an M&S Food Hall nearby, as well as a number of cafes and restaurants, including Gail’s Bakery, which I really liked. It was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and was a very nice option for getting a quick bite that tasted good. You could either eat there or get takeaway. I would definitely stay at the PI County Hall again.

How did you find the surroundings? I crossed Westminster Bridge a couple of weeks ago and it was much better than it was last year. Far fewer dodgy characters. I couldn't believe how big the queue for the London Eye was though! That was early May. It would be absolutely rammed by the time July comes around I bet.

Gerry, the surroundings were fine. And Westminster Bridge was, too. I had been reading reports about dodgy characters and so on, but there was nothing like that. And it was usually the most convenient place for me to cross. In the evenings, it would get a bit more crowded, but it was still very easy just to walk across and I never had any dodgy encounters with anyone.

I never actually saw London Eye moving while I was there, I wondered maybe it if doesn't start running until April. Is that true?

Westminster Bridge was much quieter recently in terms of folks up to no good. It was the number of people playing that shell game, and the number of really ropey stooges they had in the crowd pretending to play that bothered me. Worst I had seen anywhere in London. It was much better, but I did see uniformed cops on the bridge too.

Hmmm... I think the London Eye runs all year round. It does move very slowly though so maybe it was imperceptible :) It's never appealed to me enough to want to go on it.

Gail's is consistently excellent across all their branches. Real high quality. Did you try Greggs while you were in the UK at all? I'm more of a Greggs sausage roll man myself.

Re: the London Eye, that could be it. TBH, I didn't pay much attention to it, since, like you, I had no intention of going on it. And yes, I did hit up Greggs in York right before I headed to the bus station (and disaster, lol). I completely forgot about that. The sausage roll was very good!
